A Three-Year Founding Partnership Creates a Permanent Literary Home for Haitian Women Writers

‍

WASHINGTON, D.C., -  Haitian women are making a permanent home for their stories. At the Haitian Ladies Weekend®: Igniting Our Power 2026.

The Haitian Ladies Network® (HLN) will launch the inaugural Dr. Solanges Vivens Author’s Corner, a three-year literary legacy initiative bringing Haitian women authors together while creating an enduring platform for emerging and first-time published voices.

‍

Launching October 2 - 4, 2026 in Washington, D.C., the Author’s Corner is the first multi-year founding partnership of its kind for the Haitian Ladies Weekend®. Rather than a one-weekend activation, the initiative is designed to create a lasting literary home where Haitian and Haitian-descent women writers can connect with readers, sell and sign their books, and gain visibility for their work.

‍

The inaugural Author’s Corner will feature:

• Carla Beauvais
• Jennifer Erie
• Malou Beauvoir
• Naed Jasmin Désiré
• Fanie Jocelyn

The initiative is the vision of Dr. Solanges Vivens, whose lifelong connection to books and storytelling inspired her to build a platform that could outlast a single event.

"I have always believed that a story can outlive the person who tells it. That is the gift of a book: it allows our memories, our language, and our experiences to travel beyond us," said Dr. Vivens. "I wanted the Author's Corner to be a place where Haitian women could see that legacy continuing in real time. We are honoring the women who have already made their mark, while making room for the women who are just beginning to find their voices. This is not a one-weekend celebration. It is a commitment to making sure our stories continue to live on."

The Author's Corner also honors the broader literary legacy of Haitian women from generations of cultural storytelling and historical memory to internationally acclaimed Haitian authors. "Our Haitian community has always understood the power of storytelling," said HLN Co-Founder and Board Member Dr. Syncia Sabain. "The Dr. Solanges Vivens Author's Corner gives that tradition a physical home at the Haitian Ladies Weekend™ Conference. It creates space for women to discover authors, support their work, exchange stories, and recognize themselves in the literary legacy we are building together."

The celebration kicks off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, October 2, at 5 p.m. On Saturday, HLN will host a Legacy Moment honoring Dr. Vivens, featuring the five inaugural authors and the soft launch of her new book, 80 Feeling 50.

Fittingly, the Author's Corner embodies this year's Haitian Ladies Weekend® North Star “ Rasin Nou se Fòs Nou”, "Our Roots Are Our Strength", a commitment to ensuring Haitian women's stories are not only remembered, but given room to grow.
